I’ve talked about my love for crunchy snacks many times before. I don’t know what it is about them, but to say that I love crunchy snacks is probably an understatement. Fortunately, there are plenty of crunchy snacks that are also healthy. I usually reach for in-shell pistachios first because I not only love the texture but I love peeling off the shell.
Rather than sharing a recipe post today, I am sharing with you some of my favorite quick and easy healthy snack ideas. No recipe or prep work needed for these snacks. Just grab and go. I’m also sharing some tips for creating the perfect snack pairing.
In-shell pistachios are the perfect way to get back on track in 2015. They are a naturally nutritious and delicious snack option. Pistachios make a great, everyday healthy snacking choice if you are looking to satisfy a crunchy or salty snack craving. They are one of the lowest calorie, lowest fat nuts and are among the highest in protein. Pistachios are a top food trend for 2015 and are a great tasting, fun and convenient everyday healthy snacking choice.
The best thing about in-shell pistachios is that the empty pistachio shells serve as a “visual cue” of how many pistachios you have consumed, thereby potentially reducing calorie intake.
I like to have an assortment of snacks on hand to satisfy my craving for something crunchy, sweet or salty. The perfect snack pairing should focus on texture, flavor and nutritional value. Good snack choices should also be filling and satisfy your hunger until your next snack or meal. The options are endless for creating unique and healthy snack pairings.
Four of my favorite snack combinations are the following:
(1) Pistachios, pomegranate arils and dark chocolate chips – Crunchy, sweet, juicy and colorful! I love pairing pistachios with fresh fruit and the dark chocolate chips satisfy my craving for something sweet.
(2) Pistachios, apple and brie – Salty, tart and creamy! I love this combination because it includes brie cheese.
(3) Pistachios, banana and dates – The perfect combination of something crunchy, sweet and fresh!
(4) Pistachios, raspberries and dried apricots – Berries, dried fruit and pistachios work well together because the tart taste of the berries is paired with the subtle sweetness of the dried fruit.
The combinations above are just a few options. You could even add some creamy non-fat Greek yogurt or a smoothie.
