Things worth talking about July 2013 includes a few highlights from the past month.
Okay, seriously. Last I checked it was June. Time flies when you are having fun and this July I’ve already had a great time. I enjoyed the long holiday weekend at the beginning of the month. I also relaxed in the islands of the Turks and Caicos for our vacation and tried two things I haven’t done in quite some time.
It has been over 10 years since I have painted any kind of artwork. Sure, I painted a few walls when we first moved into our house but it certainly wasn’t artwork. If you are not Picasso (and perhaps even if you are), and are looking to have some fun painting with some friends, I highly recommend trying one of these painting classes.
We have a Painting with a Twist located here, but there are other companies that basically have the same type of classes. Spend a few hours with a few friends, a glass of wine and some paint. Go home with a canvas painting even the most inexperienced painter would be proud of. This month was my first time trying one of these classes and I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. I’m already looking forward to the next one.
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands
I almost didn’t want to post about Provo here because I like to keep my favorite travel destinations a secret. We like relaxed, low key places and when they get too popular and commercialized, they often lose their appeal. I shared a few pics of our trip to the island here. Grace Bay beach on Provo is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world, and the beach is really what makes this island. The snorkeling is not as good as other places we have been, such as St. John, U.S.V.I., but I’ve heard that the diving here is amazing.
One of my favorite things about Provo is the multitude of high quality chefs and restaurants on the island. Eating delicious food, relaxing on the beach, snorkeling and kayaking to a secluded island is my idea of an amazing vacation. If you haven’t been to Providenciales or the Turks and Caicos Islands, I highly recommend you visit at least once. We had such a great time on vacation that I am already looking forward to planning the next one. Hawaii, Anguilla, and going back to St. John are all next on our list. Which travel destinations do you have on your wish list?
For the past week, I’ve been receiving e-mails and reminders about the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I keep hitting delete because I am trying to save any shopping for when we travel to South Florida at the end of August. However, yesterday I decided to just take a peek at what is on sale and now I have my eye on a few items. I don’t know whether I will actually end up buying anything but there is never any harm in window shopping.
Now that I’ve been using Bloglovin for a little over a month, I am really happy with it. I like how easy it is to follow other blogs and how there is even a page to view popular blogs and posts. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to follow my blog with Bloglovin.
Both of these last two items were gifts I recently received. I had this curling wand on my Amazon wishlist now for quite some time. I like to keep my beauty routine relatively quick and easy, and I’ve heard that the curling wand is good for styling your hair in little time. It is inexpensive, easy to use and perfect if you want a little curl but don’t want to spend hours styling your hair.
This is my new favorite book and I’ve only had it for less than a week! It functions mostly as a reference book for knowing which ingredients work well together to bring out the best flavor. The first chapter of this book details the four factors that contribute to flavor – taste, mouthfeel, aroma, and what the authors refer to as “the X factor”, which is how the other senses of the body perceive food. I’m only a few pages in, but I can’t wait to incorporate the suggestions into my dishes.
