You’re here because you want to start a blog. You read blogs on a daily basis and think, “hey, I could do that too.” But you are not sure where to start or whether anyone would actually read your blog. Right?

How to Start a Food and Travel Blog
(1) Purchase your Domain and find a Hosting Company
Your domain is your URL. Mine is spoonfulofflavor.com. If you already have an idea of a possible name, go to Bluehost to see if your domain name is available by entering it in the box that looks like this:
You will also need to host your domain name. Hosting is essentially the place where your blog and all of the data is stored. A host provides space on their services and equipment to store your blog. Bluehost is a great low cost option for hosting your domain. Bluehost was the host I chose when I started my blog and I am very happy with the service they provide. Visit Bluehost to sign up.
You will be asked to pick your plan level. I recommend the Starter Plan, which is paid in one lump sum instead of monthly, so you will save quite a bit of money. You can always upgrade your plan at a later date.
(2) Install WordPress
After you purchase your domain and pay for hosting, you will need to install WordPress.
WordPress is the software needed to run your blog. It is user friendly and easy to install on your website.
Here is how to install WordPress:
Login to Bluehost and find the Website Builders section. Click on the WordPress logo.
On the next page click on the “Start a Brand New Install” button.
Click the “Check Domain” button”
Check the terms and conditions box and then click “Install Now.”
Once the install is complete, you will want to click on the “View Credentials” button and write down your Admin URL, Username and Password. Now, it’s time to login! Type your admin URL into your web browser. Enter your username and password and you are officially logged into your new blog!
(3) Design and details
Congratulations on your new blog! Now you want to make it look nice and unique, right?
On day one of my blog, I actually hired a designer. I found my current designer, Sugar Studios Design on etsy.com. Search “blog template,” “wordpress theme,” and more on Etsy or on Google for options. My designer created my original blog design and also created my new (and current) design. You don’t have to spend any money on a design, the choice is yours. There are thousands of free WordPress themes online if you don’t want to spend any money. Have fun creating something that is unique and special. Your blog is now your platform to write, create and share your thoughts with the world!
