I’ve always loved homemade sugar scrub. But until recently, I never made it myself. Sugar scrub is one of those things that I love buying at little boutiques or gift shops, especially when I travel. It makes me feel like I am treating myself to something special. Because I recently ran out of my favorite sugar scrub and realized that I already had all of the ingredients, I decided to make my own homemade coconut lemon sugar scrub.
The scrub is great for exfoliating and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. I love rubbing it on the bottoms of my feet before a pedicure. The coconut lemon scent is subtle, clean, and refreshing. Homemade sugar scrub also makes the perfect gift for someone who needs a little pampering.
The recipe uses four easy-to-find ingredients. I use coconut oil for cooking and baking quite often, but I honestly never thought to use it in anything else until I decided to make my own sugar scrub. You can melt the coconut oil to liquefy or just use it straight out of the jar as a solid. It works well either way. If you melt the oil, just let it cool slightly before adding the sugar.
On a somewhat unrelated note, schools are canceled around parts of North Florida because of the storm that is coming through today. And many of the businesses are closed until noon. I remember having numerous snow days as a child growing up in New England and always loved having a day off from school. The children here are very excited to have a day off of school, but hopefully the storm won’t bring too much snow or icy weather our way. After all, I did move to Florida for a reason. And, of course, I still have to work regardless of the weather. But the cold, icy weather certainly has me thinking about taking a nice warm bath with this coconut lemon sugar scrub and daydreaming about sipping a pina colada on a warm tropical island.
Homemade Coconut Lemon Sugar Scrub
- 1 cup extra virgin pure coconut oil
- 1 1/2 cups turbinado sugar
- 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- zest and juice from one lemon
- Combine the coconut oil and sugars together in a bowl. Mix to incorporate. Add the zest and lemon juice and stir to combine.
- Store in an airtight container and stir just before using.
