Trick or Treating for Kids and Adults

One of the best things about the Halloween party at Disney World is the trick or treating for kids and adults. My daughter loves that we dress up and attend the trick or treating with her. In true Disneybounding fashion, we usually create easy and comfortable costumes that fit with a Disney theme. A lot of guests dress up for the party since it’s one of the only times that adults can wear costumes to Disney World.

The party features over one dozen treat locations. We visit about half of the treat locations for each party and bring home a lot of candy. They give at least one handful per location so you will go home with plenty of candy. They even have allergy friendly options!

Speciality Food and Beverage

Mickey’s Halloween Party offers speciality food and beverage available only at the party. You will find everything from specialty desserts and milkshakes to hamburgers and more.

The desserts at Magic Kingdom are always super sweet. If you love sweets, then the party sweets and treats are just for you. Look for speciality food and beverage locations on the map to find exclusive treats like Jack and Sally Push Pops, Constance’s For Better or Worse Wedding Cake, Headless Horseman Cheesecake and more.

The party offers allergy friendly treats and candy. Be sure to look at the map and party guide for allergy friendly locations.

In addition to the unique food options, the party offers exclusive popcorn buckets like this Mickey Balloon popcorn bucket that is only available at the Halloween party. We usually pass on the exclusive popcorn buckets, but this one was too fun to resist. And I’m pretty sure it holds more popcorn than a regular bucket. It’s lightweight but fits a lot of popcorn because of the shape. Since we are visiting Walt Disney World a lot this fall, we decided to purchase this bucket.

Mickey’s Boo to You Halloween Parade

The Boo to You Parade at Walt Disney World is my favorite Disney parade. While the parade isn’t new, there are a few new additions for 2019. Disney added Tomorrowland characters like Buzz Lightyear and The Incredibles to the parade lineup this year. In addition, the parade also includes a ghost bride in the Haunted Mansion portion of the parade. The parade music is fun and upbeat. This parade should not be missed!

While the parade does have some spooky elements such as the Haunted Mansion and Villains, it’s nothing too scary as it’s very light hearted overall. Our entire family loves this parade, including my preschooler who thinks a lot of Disney rides are scary.

Parade location and times

The parade takes place twice nightly at 9:15pm and 11:15pm. We always grab a really good spot for the first parade to watch the entire thing. Our first parade viewing location is usually in Frontierland, as that is the location where the parade starts. We also watch the parade on Main Street during the second parade viewing time towards the entrance of the park so that we can head out of the park as the parade is ending. The second parade viewing time is usually less crowded too.

Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular

For 2019, there is a completely new Halloween fireworks show and it’s so good. The Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks show should not be missed. It only happens once per party at 10:15pm so be sure to grab your spot to see this beautiful show. Because this show is exclusive to the Halloween party, you can’t see it any other time except for during the nights of the party.

The fireworks spectacular features Mickey, Minnie and friends exploring a spooky Halloween night. It features fireworks, projections and lasers. It’s fun, colorful and perfect for the entire family. We would rate the fireworks as one of our top three favorite experiences during the party.

Party merchandise and other fun

If you love Disney merchandise, then you will love the specialty party offerings. The party offers exclusive merchandise available only to guests that attend the party. See the party map for locations of special event merchandise.

In addition to the trick or treating, character appearances, fireworks and parade, the party also offers a Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball featuring a dance party with the Monsters Inc characters, the Storybook Circus Junior Jam with Disney Junior characters and the Disney Descendence Party. We attended all three dance parties this year and they are always a hit with the kids. Lastly, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular is a show that takes place on the stage in front of the castle at 8:30pm, 10:30pm and 12:00pm.

Below are a few additional frequently asked questions about the party.

Does Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween sell out?

Yes, some nights of the party will sell out. We notice that the parties closer to Halloween sell out the quickest. If it fits your schedule, we recommend a party in September on a Sunday as we find that those parties are less busy. Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance and we highly recommend purchasing them as soon as you plan your visit so that you don’t miss it. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the tickets are nonrefundable. So if you need to cancel you will not receive a refund for your ticket.

What rides are open during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?

Almost all of the rides are open during the party. At the parties we attended, we didn’t notice any rides that were not open. Some rides have special Halloween overlays, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Mad Tea Party, Space Mountain and Monsters Inc, Laugh Floor. For 2019, Pirates of the Caribbean has live actors participating in the attraction, the Mad Tea Party has specialty lighting, Space Mountain is completely dark and Monsters Inc, Laugh Floor is Halloween themed, with a trick or treat trail through the attraction. There are no Fast Passes during the party since there are much lower crowd levels than a typical day.

Tips for attending the Disney Halloween party

  • Arrive early. We recommend arriving at the park at least one to two hours beforehand to take photos, visit attractions and possibly eat dinner.
  • Have a game plan. Choose two or three of your top must-dos for the party that you don’t want to miss. It’s impossible to do everything at the party which is why we often go more than once a year.
  • Dress up in costume. This is one of the only times to dress up at Walt Disney World. You will see many families in costumes and it’s fun to dress up. Keep in mind that it may still be hot in Florida during the party so plan accordingly.
  • Skip the party add-ons if it’s your first time. During the party, there are two additional party add-ons – Cruella’s Halloween Hide-A-Way party and the Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular Dessert Party. If it’s your first party, the add-ons are not worth it since you will need the time to experience all of the other party offerings. However, if you already experienced the party many times, we recommend adding on the Dessert Party for the exclusive reserved viewing area access during the fireworks. We think the dessert parties are worth the extra costs if priority viewing is a must. However, we don’t think either of the add ons are necessary at all to have a great experience at the Halloween party.
  • Other notes: You do not need to bring a treat bag for trick or treating. They give you a bag as you enter the park. Be sure to grab a party map and guide when entering too.
