What is a mug cake?

How to make vanilla mug cake
To make this vanilla mug cake recipe, you will need unsalted butter, milk, vanilla extract, sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. You can also add chocolate sprinkles, if desired.
Place the butter in a large mug and microwave for 30 seconds until melted. Allow the mug to cool for 2 to 3 minutes. Quickly whisk in the milk, vanilla extract and sugar. If the butter begins to solidify, microwave it for 30 seconds to warm the milk. Then, whisk in the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in the chocolate sprinkles. Microwave for 80 to 90 seconds. Cool the mug for two minutes before serving.
Mug cake tips
- Use a large mug to prevent spilling. Use a mug that is at least 14 ounces to prevent the cake from bubbling over in the microwave.
- You can substitute the sprinkles for chocolate chips or rainbow sprinkles.
- Serve with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, if desired.
- The mug will be very hot after cooking in the microwave. Allow it to sit for at least two minutes before touching or eating.
- You can make the mug cakes in advance and cover until you’re ready to eat.
- Do not make mug cakes in the oven. Mug cake recipes are for the microwave only.
- Because this is a small cake, you do not need to use eggs. The combination of ingredients in this recipe yields the best texture and flavor.

This is my go-to mug cake recipe when we want a quick dessert. I make mine in a mason jar, turns out perfect every time. I sometimes like to add a few drops of almond extract for a flavor variation. Makes a nice little moist and fluffy cake.
I dont usually review when I had to make a substitution but you guys….I replaced the unsalted butter with an equal amount of peanut butter. It. So. Rocks.
Thank you for an excellent mug cake recipe!
