Let’s talk about resolutions. I don’t usually make resolutions for the New Year. Instead, I make one personal goal for the year and aim to achieve that goal. I don’t usually share the goal with anyone else because it is something I do for myself. This year, I haven’t quite determined my one personal goal for the year, but I have decided to make a few kitchen resolutions. Today, I’m sharing my five kitchen resolutions for the new year and the recipe for this citrus sunrise smoothie.

I call these kitchen resolutions because they are things related to cooking and baking that I would I like to focus on in 2015. Here are my five kitchen resolutions:

(1) Take a few cooking classes – I have no formal culinary training. For the past few years I’ve wanted to take a cooking class, especially a knife skills class, but I have yet to actually do it. This year, I am going to aim to take a few classes to learn some master techniques.

(2) Be more adventurous – Bouchon Bakery and My Paris Kitchen are two of my favorite cookbooks to peruse, but I have only made a handful of recipes from both books. Every time I open the books Pain au Chocolat and Parisian Gnocchi call my name but I have yet to master them. In 2015, I am not only going to make those two recipes, but I am also going to experiment with different flavors and ingredients.

(3) Cook and bake recipes from other bloggers more often and share my results with you – Just like you, many of the recipes I make for dinner during the week or brunch on the weekend are recipes developed by other bloggers. I want to share my favorite recipes from other bloggers with you. Each week, I am going to try to share one recipe that I have actually made on Instagram and Facebook.

(4) Prep meals ahead of time – I meal plan so that I have a schedule and don’t have to worry about what I am making for dinner. But I don’t do a very good job prepping meals ahead of time. A lot of time is saved by prepping meals on the weekends and in the morning before I start working. I am going to try to be more conscious about prepping to save time.

(5) Reorganize – I have a large kitchen but not a lot of storage space. My drawers often get stuck because I have too much stuff in them and because they are not organized in any reasonable order. I already ordered a few drawer organization tools and am expanding the space on my island to accomodate two more cabinets. Mission kitchen organization will commence soon.

Now that I shared my kitchen resolutions for this year, I want to share this bright, fun and refreshing smoothie with you. Colorful and flavorful, this smoothie reminds me of the summer sun. Made with oranges, pineapples and mango, plus a date to add a little sweetness, this smoothie is the perfect way to start the day or enjoy as an afternoon snack.

Great goals! Pain au chocolat has been my resolution for 3 years now… This has to be the year I make it!

This smoothie looks like the best way to start a Monday!

  2. Gayle @ Pumpkin 'N Spice

I don’t make resolutions either, as I usually give up by February! I do make goals though, and those seem much easier to keep. This smoothie looks fantastic, Ashley! I love the pineapple and mango flavors. Sounds so refreshing!

  3. Jocelyn (Grandbaby cakes)

I don’t make resolutions either. I prefer your approach of one personal goal a year. I think I should make mine to have more smoothies because these look incredible!

  4. Alice @ Hip Foodie Mom

Ashley, love your kitchen resolutions!!! and this fabulous smoothie!!! It’s so pretty too!! I need to do #5 too!!! I am in the same boat, I have a large kitchen but not a lot of storage space. We even added a second pantry and I did a good job at reorganizing at one point last year but now, it’s already a mess again!!

  5. Ilona @ Ilona's Passion

I love smoothies, they have to be always in my kitchen. And the best thing is that my children love them too. Citrus smoothie sounds amazing!

I am so on board with all of your resolutions! I have always wanted to take a cooking class but have never actually gone and done it — I might have to give it a try too! And I’m loving this smoothie, especially on such a dreary day here!

These are some great goals/resolutions Ashley. I’m totally with you on taking some cooking classes. I’ve taken a couple at Sur la Table and loved them, I need to do a few more this year! This Citrus Sunrise Smoothie looks so tropical and refreshing, I need some of it’s sunny color in my cloudy day today!

  8. Kelly

I love your goals for the year! I am usually really good about meal planning but I am not good about sharing this I make from other bloggers, but I should! I think it is important we all support each other! 🙂 This smoothie looks great!

  12. Min @ MJ and Hungryman

Oh man how could you say no to a smoothie with a name like that?! A total pick me upper 😉 Sounds so refreshing! I love all your goals. I, too, am planning on sharing more recipes I make from other bloggers as well bc that’s where I gain much inspirations. And yes..I must reorganize my drawers and my pantry..it’s quite hideous, indeed.

  13. Julie | This Gal Cooks

I love your kitchen goals, Ashley! I have told myself that I am going to make more recipes from the tons of cookbooks I have. I’ve done a little reorganizing as well.

I love your kitchen resolutions, Ashley, and I can’t wait to see your croissants! I also want to make dishes that I’ve pinned from other bloggers and share them more — it just doesn’t happen often enough! This smoothie is like a pretty ray of sunlight that I’d love waking up to!

  16. Lindsey @ American Heritage Cooking

Those are great goals!!! My kitchen is tiny and one of the best things I did a year or so ago was organize it! Drawer dividers, combining partials bags, spice shelf stair step thingys…amazing!
Almost as amazing as this smoothie looks! Just gorgeous! Pinned!

  17. Aimee @ Like mother like daughter

This smoothie looks like refreshing perfection. And I love your new year’s resolutions. I’d love to take a cooking class this year too. How fun!

  18. Annie @ Annie's Noms

Oh wow this looks so amazing! Like pure sunshine when the weather in the UK is utterly terrible!

  19. Ashley

This is such a happy and fun smoothie! Perfect for the gloomy weather we’ve been having! And it sounds pretty darn delicious too!

This year I want to cross off some of my kitchen bucket list items – like homemade tortillas and croissants! I never seem to get around to making them!
