  • Cold Butter – You’ll need very cold butter to cream together with the sugar to create a perfectly soft texture.
  • Sugar – You need both light brown sugar and granulated white sugar to sweeten these cookie cups perfectly.
  • Eggs – Help to bind the ingredients together and set while baking and cooling.
  • Vanilla Extract – Gives this dessert a light vanilla flavor that pairs well with chocolate.

  • Cornstarch – Helps add a slightly dense texture to the outside while it stays soft on the inside.
  • Baking Powder – Helps the cookies rise while baking.

How To Make Jack Jack Num Num Cookies

  1. Prepare for baking: Preheat your oven to 350F. Then, add 4” deep shallow baking cups onto a large baking sheet and set aside. I use these deep dish baking cups.
  2. Cream wet ingredients together: Add the cold butter and both sugars into the bowl of a stand mixer. Using the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together over medium-high speed until they are combined and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until well combined.
  3. Prepare dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt until well incorporated. Sift out any large clumps if needed.
  4. Mix the wet and dry ingredients: Turn your stand mixer on medium-low speed, and slowly add the dry ingredient mixture just until it resembles a soft cookie batter.
  5. Add the chocolate: Pour in the chocolate chips and 1/2 of the chocolate chunks and slowly mix until they are evenly distributed without over mixing.
  6. Assemble the cookie cups: Using a measuring spoon or ice cream scoop, add ½ cup of the cookie mixture into each baking cup and gently press the dough down. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chunks on top of each cookie cup and gently press them into the top of the cookie.
  7. Bake and cool: Place the cookies in the oven and bake for 20-22 minutes until they are golden brown on top. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

These cookies are HUGE and can easily serve two people each.

Expert Tips

  • When making cookies with a soft inside, it’s important to only mix the cookie dough just until everything is incorporated. Overmixing will create a tough texture.
  • You can use a rubber spatula to fold in the chocolate chips and chocolate chunks to prevent overmixing.
  • While you can mix in all the chocolate at once, for a chocolate studded texture and look on top, it’s important to save some chocolate to press into the top before baking.
  • A greased cookie or ice cream scoop is the perfect tool to evenly distribute the cookie dough into the paper liners.
  • Let the cookies cool at least 15 minutes after baking to allow the cookie to give it the perfect dense crust-like texture on the outside.

Variations

  • Gluten-Free Version: If you’d like to make this Disney treat gluten-free, replace the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 blend of gluten-free flour that contains xanthan gum.
  • Add a warming flavor by using a pinch of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice in the cookie dough before baking.
  • You can use any variety of chocolate in this recipe including white chocolate, peanut butter, or butterscotch chips.
  • M&Ms or rainbow sprinkles make a great addition to top this decadent cookie.

  1. What did I do wrong? As they cooled, the cookies sank in the middle.

    • Oh, no! Chocolate chip cookies, including these shouldn’t really sink in the middle. There could be a few reasons why this happened – (1) Your oven wasn’t the correct temperature (use a thermometer to confirm), (2) your ingredients weren’t fresh (likely the eggs, baking powder or cornstarch), (3) the butter wasn’t cold and (4) the dough was mixed too long which added air to the cookie dough. The cookies expanded due to air while baking and after baking, the cookies fell. (3) and (4) are the most likely scenarios. I hope you try them again and enjoy!

  2. Oh my goodness this is so delicious and easy! I couldn’t find 4″ baking cups but I got 3.5″ and they are so delicious

  3. Why do some official recipes for this cookie brown their butter?

    • I don’t know why other recipes include browned butter as I’m not sure which recipe you are referring to. I imagine that there are other differences in the recipe too. Browning butter creates a more complex flavor, but that can also be achieved with different sugar ratios, number of eggs, amount of chocolate and vanilla, etc. This recipe comes direct from the Delish Loves Disney publication which was sent to me by Disney. Enjoy!

  4. Such an interesting cookie recipe. Looks very delicious. Perfect for cozy weekends. I’m definitely making this.

  5. Ok the only thing better than a chocolate chip cookie is a DEEP DISH chocolate chip cookie! So yummy!
