Strawberries are not only my favorite berry, they are my absolute favorite food. I am pretty sure I could survive on strawberries, water and chocolate. In celebration of my favorite berry, this week will be dedicated to five all-new strawberry recipes. I promise there will be something for everyone, from healthy to sweet and everything in between. At the end of the week, I’m sharing a round-up of over 50 strawberry recipes. Let’s get the week started with a classic homemade strawberry margarita perfect for Cinco de Mayo.

So what makes the perfect margarita? Freshly squeezed juice and plenty of fresh berries. Oh, and the tequila helps too. Did you know that citrus enhances the flavor of berries? The acid in the limes helps bring out the strawberry flavor in this margarita. This recipe is quick, easy and can be adapted depending on your taste.

I eat a lot of berries and am always looking for new ways to incorporate them into my diet. My absolute favorite way to enjoy berries is just by snacking on them fresh. But, berries can be worked into any meal. Strawberry Margarita
Save Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 10-12 strawberries, sliced
  • 6 ounces tequila
  • 1-2 cups ice cubes
  • salt or coarse sugar for rimming glasses (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat lime juice and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Place lime mixture, orange juice, strawberries, tequila and 1 cup of ice in a blender. Blend on high until smooth. Add more ice and blend, as desired.
  3. Dip rim of glasses into extra lime juice and then into salt or sugar, if desired.

Notes

This recipe can be adapted to suit your taste. Add more fruit, ice or sugar, to taste.
